An applied science, like hydrogeology, concerned with the practical application of geological principles to solve environmental problems created by human activity. It is a multidisciplinary field closely related to engineering geology and, to a lesser extent, environmental geography, applying geological information to resolve conflicts, minimize adverse environmental degradation and maximize advantageous conditions arising from the use of the natural and modified environment.
